Playing your best golf consistently has never been easy.

UNTIL NOW

Introducing new and unique golf software that tracks your practice and play stats.

Hello golfers,

Welcome to agolfswing.com. My golf buddies call me CK and I'd really like you to as well. In a moment I will show you how you can play your best golf game more consistently. But before that, a short golfing story.

I started playing golf nearly 40 years ago as a pre teenager. Back then, golf was pure joy. A simple case of hit it, find it then hit it some more - happy days. After several years of "knowing" I could play better golf, but never seeming to find my "best game" when it mattered, I lost interest and nearly quit the game.

I didn't understand why you couldn't just turn up, tee it up and turn it on.

The problem was I was impatient and hadn't yet learned that it took a lot more than just raw natural talent to play golf well consistently.

Fast forward to the summer of 1998 and on a hot, breathless magical weekend it happened. Out of the blue and not having had any particularly good form immediately before, I won my first club championship.

Over the course of the next few years, as I won more competitions, I learned and began to apply an important secret for anyone who wants to succeed in golf.

Writing about success in golf and business, this is what the Fortune Magazine said about it :

" The lack of natural talent is irrelevant to great success. The secret? Painful and demanding practice and hard work." Geoffrey Colvin

That weekend back in '98 gave me conclusive evidence that I had a natural talent for golf but also that I had ridden that wave as far as I could.

I realised I had to learn how to practice, play and analyse my game correctly in order to play my best game more consistently.

Nice story but what has any of this got to do with you ?

If you are serious about becoming a better, more consistent golfer then your first step is to learn and understand what it takes to achieve your goal. Next, you must implement the lessons and use all available tools to help you along the way.

" The best people in any field are those who devote the most hours to what the researchers call "deliberate practice." It's activity that's explicitly intended to improve performance, that reaches for objectives just beyond one's level of competence, provides feedback on results and involves high levels of repetition. " Geoffrey Colvin

Allow me to explain how you can incorporate the concept of "deliberate practice" and start to play your best golf more consistently, by using a 3 point plan.

At The Practice Range

There are three "rules" for a correct golf practice session.

  1. Have a practice objective in mind before you begin the session. You must know what you want to achieve, what your goals are for that particular session.

  1. A proper practice session is specific in its aims, actions and outcomes. Beating balls is not practice. It may be a specific objective, but practice it is not

Simply hitting a bucket of balls is not deliberate practice, which is why most golfers don't get better. Hitting an eight-iron 300 times with a goal of leaving the ball within 20 feet of the pin 80 percent of the time, continually observing results and making appropriate adjustments, and doing that for hours every day that's deliberate practice.  Geoffrey Colvin

  1. Transferring your practice to the golf course demands that you practice as you play.

Take the same amount of time as you do out on the golf course and use your normal pre shot routine to play every shot on the practice range.

On The Golf Course

Preset your course play goals and make them challenging. Set a goal to hit a few more fairways or greens than you can comfortably achieve. Practice playing outside your comfort zone.

Set your Inner game goals and commit to following through on them out on the course. Use the pre shot and post shot routines you have practiced on the range.

Develop an in between shot routine to relax and slacken concentration as you walk in between shots.

Analyse Your Data

Analyse your data and review your progress frequently, making new plans to improve practice sessions and play goals wherever necessary.

Use this 3 point plan regularly and watch your handicap fall like a stone. You will quickly see improvements in all areas of your golf game resulting in better golf and more consistency

OK ! Let's really put this strategy to work and play better golf

In our own quest to find a way of playing a better golf game more consistently we began by summarising the big idea of all good golfers :

Tip Sheet: Perfect Practice

1. Approach each critical task with an explicit goal of getting much better at it.
2. As you do the task, focus on what's happening and why you're doing it the way you are.
3. After the task, get feedback on your performance from multiple sources. Make changes in your behaviour as necessary.
4. Continually build mental models of your situation
5. Do those steps regularly, not sporadically. Occasional practice does not work.
 Geoffrey Colvin
